They take on a large share of work that requires human strength, and many of them take high-level jobs in critical industries and even some government positions. Moreover, migrants contribute to the transformation of host communities into more diverse and interconnected ones, participate in the promotion of different cultures.

Migration and Human Rights

Migrants ‘ rights at the United Nations

Migrants should have their rights protected like any other human being, and given the challenges and difficulties they face, migrants are given special protection according to international human rights law. At the UN, migrants are entitled to rights such as the right to health care and education, and they are also protected from ethnic, religious and other forms of discrimination.

Legal protection of the rights of migrants

In several countries, laws have been passed aimed at protecting the rights of illegal immigrants and refugees. This legal and legislative framework facilitates the identification and respect of the rights of migrants, puts an end to the abuses and exploitation to which they may be subjected. Thanks to these measures, conditions for migrants have been improved and their experience in their host countries has been improved.

Housing and immigration

The impact of immigration on housing

Migrants face great challenges in finding a suitable place to stay and live in the host countries. High rental prices and the difficulty of obtaining social housing affect their daily lives and increase the level of poverty. However, migration may provide opportunities to invest in housing and improve the quality of living in some host communities.

Procedures for providing housing to migrants

Governments are taking measures to improve the housing situation of migrants by providing social housing and affordable housing. It also supports housing provision and homeownership facilitation programs, and encourages private-government partnerships to provide adequate housing for immigrants. In addition, emergency housing is provided for migrants who are unable to live in ordinary residential areas. Through these measures, care is taken to help the rights of migrants and improve their socio-economic conditions.

The impact of migration on the local economy

The economic contribution of immigrants

Migrants are an important source of strengthening the local economy in the countries to which they move, through improving working, production and employment conditions in local markets. Some governments are facilitating the contribution of migrants to the local economy through decisions and measures that encourage employment, trade and stimulate investments.

Economic challenges facing migrants

Despite this, migrants face significant economic challenges, such as the difficulty of obtaining stable and well-paid jobs and enjoying employment rights like other citizens. In addition, they may have difficulty accessing financial services, insurance and health care, which increases the level of poverty and social marginalization.
