Illuminating Quranic Retreats Project – Chad
⭕ Chad is a Muslim-majority country, and one of the poorest countries in the world according to the latest statistics. At the same time, Chad is considered a country of memorizers, as the number of memorizers of the Book of God exceeds one million, as a result of the population’s attachment to the Holy Qur’an for memorization and learning.
📚 Students memorize the Holy Qur’an through the system known as Qur’anic retreats, where students commit to joining a Qur’anic retreat, and devote themselves to memorizing it through a program to memorize the entire Holy Qur’an, which lasts between 3 to 5 continuous years.
⭕ More than 7,000 Quranic seclusions are spread throughout the country of Chad. As a result of the extreme poverty that the country is experiencing, the Qur’anic retreats are subject to extremely difficult conditions, as students are taught in dilapidated houses or under a tree near one of the walls, huddled around one of the teachers, spread out on the ground, some taking shade from the trees and most from the sky. As for the evening, the students collect firewood with their small hands until sunset, then they burn what they have gathered at night 🔥 and gather around it to study and review.
🟢 As a contribution to alleviating the burden of these students, and supporting them in memorizing and learning the Book of God, we propose to you a project to illuminate these Quranic retreats at night through solar lighting units, as an alternative to the dangerous firelight, so that through this project we will save the students the effort and fatigue of We collect firewood and protect them from the health damage caused by the burning fire that provides them with light.
